Restore Your Vision

How the Treatment Was Developed
Acupuncture has been used in Asia and other parts of the world for thousands of years. Oriental zone therapy became Microacupuncture in the 1990s in Europe and the US, and this form of acupuncture has been used, among other things, to successfully treat various eye diseases. Dr. Per Otte pioneered the use of microacupuncture to treat eye disease and this tradition continues today.

Treatment Technique
The patient receives a series of acupuncture treatments: 5 per day for 7 days. Thin acupuncture needles are inserted into points on the hands and feet that can affect the body’s ability to regulate the eyes and heal impairments in vision. After this series of treatments, the patient’s vision is reevaluated and it is determined whether a new series of treatment is needed based on the extent of improvement.

Your Ophthalmologist

We strongly recommend that you visit your ophthalmologist before receiving each series of treatments and again after each series is concluded. We prefer to communicate with your ophthalmologist during this process.

Nutritional Considerations
Along with your acupuncture treatment, your diet will be very important for recovering your vision. A diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables is important. You should also attempt to limit cholesterol intake, as high cholesterol is linked to many forms of eye disease. Improving your diet, getting plenty of exercise, and increasing your water intake can increase the effectiveness of your acupuncture treatment and the chances that any improvement will be long-lasting.

After the Procedure
Once your vision has been restored to a satisfactory and stable level, we will continue to treat you periodically to maintain your vision at that level. This may mean coming back once every 6 months or once every year.
